In Her Company

Female friendship is not one thing. It is loyalty and rupture, tenderness and truth-telling, the person who holds you up and the one who let you fall. Here we hold all of it.

The many faces of the women we love

Chapter One

Betrayal

No wound cuts deeper than the one from a woman who knew you completely. Betrayal between friends is its own particular grief — the loss of a person and a version of yourself she carried. We name it here, without flinching.

Chapter Two

Enlightenment

Some women arrive in your life like a light switching on. They challenge what you thought you knew, hand you new language for old feelings, and leave you wiser than they found you. Growth, it turns out, is often a woman’s gift to another woman.

Chapter Three

Love

There is a kind of love that lives in inside jokes and 2am phone calls, in the friend who knows your order and your history. It asks for nothing and gives everything. This is the love we too often forget to name — so we name it loudly here.

Chapter Four

Support

When the ground gives way, it is often a woman who shows up with soup, silence, or a spare bed. Support is sisterhood in its plainest, truest form — the everyday heroism of women who refuse to let each other fall alone.

A woman’s friendship is the truest mirror she owns — it shows her the best of herself, and dares to show her the rest.
